Malaysia – Cherating

Roadtrip essentials:

1x cafetiere

1x pack of ground coffee

1x enamel cup

Then find an empty beach in the sunshine, brew your coffee and enjoy!

Cherating is a dive, it is incredibly run down, there’s not much there at all; limited food options and hardly any worthwhile accommodation (unless you can afford the high-end pricing of Club Med and the newly built Royale Chulan Hotel). However, the coastline where Club Med is located is beautiful; it’s not a tropical paradise but it is an endless, deserted beach that’s clean and lined with palm trees. Plus there’s a turtle sanctuary which looks after the many turtles who arrive on Cherating’s coastline to lay their eggs.

If you travel by car on the E8 from Kuala Lumpur it will take you about 3 hours to arrive in Cherating but if you’re not in a rush and want a more scenic route take the ‘N’ roads around Broga Hill and Kuala Klawang. You will pass through beautiful countryside, random kampungs and lots of palm oil plantations.
